Edward Bunyan has skills that are unusual even in a priest. He performs miracles. His gifts provide him with an access to the material and sexual pleasures of the rich world. Bunyan demonstrates his powers to his close friend and fellow priest Marmaduke, who wishes he wouldn't.
Marmaduke's unsought role as Bunyan's confessor upsets his routine as a country parson whose ambition is no more than to maintain a 'good pulpit'. It creates friction with his wife Florence, an agnostic, and with his churchwarden Wickens, who practises witchcraft.
A
black comedy with a serious core: the question of faith. In the enduring battle
between those who believe and those who don't, Beyond Reason is about a curious
episode in that battle.
